GEICO Prevails in Clinic’s Challenge of Insurance Fraud Award

GEICO is entitled to nearly $700,000 in damages after a federal appeals court concluded Thursday that a lower court correctly ruled that a spinal clinic submitted ineligible treatments for reimbursements.

The Right Spinal Clinic Inc. wasn’t eligible for about $690,000 in reimbursements for work done by its massage therapists, whether they were supervised by a licensed physician or not, according to an unpublished per curiam opinion. The clinic also and violated Florida law by submitting requests for non-reimbursable services. The US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit affirmed the district court’s granting of summary judgment to GEICO.
