GE Wins First Round in Siemens Gamesa Wind Turbines Fight

General Electric Co. won the first round in its effort to block imports to the U.S. by competing wind-turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA.

Siemens Gamesa infringes a GE patent for ways to keep the turbines connected to the grid during voltage fluctuations, U.S. International Trade Commission Judge Clark Cheney said in a notice posted on the agency’s electronic docket. The judge’s full findings, which are confidential until both sides get a chance to redact confidential information, are subject to review by the commission. The agency is scheduled to issue a final decision by Jan. 10.
