GE Gets Tribunal Review of Pratt and Whitney Engine Part Patent

General Electric Co. won its bid for a Patent Trial and Appeal Board review of Pratt and Whitney Canada Corp.'s patent claims for a turbofan gas turbine engine part.

GE contended that Pratt and Whitney’s claims are not patentable because they’re obvious in light of previous inventions and publications.

Pratt and Whitney’s U.S. Patent No. 9,709,070 involves a fan for a turbofan gas turbine engine, the Patent and Trademark Office tribunal said Monday in instituting a review of the claims.
