Fox Gets Patent Suit on Live NFL Event Scheduling Tech Tossed

Fox Corp. escaped a lawsuit alleging it copied a Boston-based company’s predictive-analytics technology to schedule and broadcast live NFL events, after a federal judge voided four patents.

Judge Gregory B. Williams found that “the Network Map Patents and the Machine Learning Training Patents”—groups that each include two Recentive Analytics Inc. patents—"are directed to the abstract ideas of producing network maps and event schedules, respectively, using known generic mathematical techniques,” rendering them ineligible for patenting, according to an opinion issued Tuesday in the US District Court for the District of Delaware.
