A federal appeals court rejected a bid by an immigration detention bond company to escape a judgment for allegedly scamming desperate families seeking to spring loved ones out of detention.

Nexus Services Inc. and several executives—Micheal Donovan, Richard Moore, and Evan Ajin—failed to prove that a federal district judge violated court procedures in applying penalties and entering a default judgment against the defendants, a unanimous three-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit ruled Wednesday.
