Formula One To Settle Patent Case Over ‘Halo’ Safety Structures

The creator of a safety feature that’s become standard for Formula One racing cars is poised to end an infringement lawsuit with the sport’s governing body over the design of the life-saving “Halo” cockpit bars.

West Texas Judge Alan Albright agreed Wednesday to pause all case deadlines, including an Oct. 7 trial date, after inventor Jens Nygaard and defendants Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile and Formula One World Championship Ltd. disclosed a settlement on the case docket.
