Ford Becomes Latest Automaker to Join Avanci Patent Pool

Ford Motor Co. has joined Avanci, a pool that handles licensing connectivity patents owned by Nokia Corp., Sharp Corp., and other telecom companies, Avanci said Tuesday.

Avanci was set up as a one-stop shop for access to patents for use in connected cars, charging $15 per vehicle for patented inventions needed to comply with 2G, 3G, and 4G standards. Almost 50 patent owners are part of the licensing platform.

Ford is the fifth US-based automaker to take a license from Avanci. It follows General Motors Co., which Avanci announced earlier this month had taken a license. ...
