Federal Reserve Banks Can Challenge Patents, Fed. Cir. Says (1)

The Federal Reserve banks aren’t government entities under the America Invents Act and can challenge patents at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, the Federal Circuit ruled Friday.

The court upheld a PTAB decision invalidating fraud-detection patents that were challenged by all 12 regional Federal Reserve banks.

Bozeman Financial LLC owns U.S. Patent Nos. 6,754,640 and 8,768,840, covering methods for authorizing and clearing financial transactions to detect and prevent fraud. The PTAB invalidated the patents for covering an abstract idea.
