Embattled 96-year-old Federal Circuit Judge Pauline Newman remains focused on patent law—and fighting a suspension over allegations she may not be up to the job—as she nears her 40th anniversary on the bench.

Newman has argued that a court investigation into her health was constitutionally flawed and that Chief Judge Kimberly A. Moore should have moved it to another circuit court. She has also objected to being denied new case assignments during the investigation, and while she appeals a one-year suspension the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit’s Judicial Council issued in September.
