FCC Seeks Feedback on AI Spam Calls, Mobile Phone Takeovers

Measures focused on studying AI’s effect on spam phone calls and on new rules on fraudulent mobile account takeovers won the Federal Communications Commission’s unanimous approval Wednesday, and the agency now is looking for public input.

The five-member commission approved a notice of inquiry to help them learn how artificial intelligence might increase the volume and risk of unwanted calls and texts consumers receive. The issue falls under the FCC’s enforcement authority under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991, according to the notice.
