FastShip Wins $7.4 Million in Fees and Costs in Navy Patent Case

The U.S. Navy owes FastShip LLC $7.4 million in attorneys’ fees and costs after it succeeded on its patent infringement claims, a federal court said June 28.

The fee award comes two years after the U.S. Court of Federal Claims found the Navy wrongly used FastShip’s patent information to design a class of littoral combat ships while sidelining it from the design process.

FastShip owns U.S. Patent Nos. 5,080,032 and 5,231,946, related to a monohull design and waterjet propulsion system that allows large ships to travel at high speeds even in difficult conditions.
