Farmers Edge Keeps Patent Suit Win, Gets Second Shot at Fees

Global agriculture tech company Farmers Edge Inc. convinced the Federal Circuit Tuesday that five patents asserted against it are abstract and therefore invalid.

The decision from the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit affirms dismissal of AGI Suretrack LLC’s infringement lawsuit on the grounds that the patents were ineligible for protection under Section 101 of the Patent Act.

On appeal, AGI argued the patents solved an interoperability problem in farming where different pieces of equipment store and code data in different formats, but the Federal Circuit disagreed.
