Celebrity-biography website Famous Birthdays LLC accused influencer-marketing platform Passes LLC of scraping its content to launch a competing product.
Passes used a script to copy more than 100,000 of Famous Birthdays’ copyrighted biographies of celebrities and influencers, exceeding the limited access permitted under a services agreement, according to a complaint filed Sept. 27 in the US District Court for the Central District of California. Famous Birthdays alleges Passes and its founder Lucy Guo infringed its copyrights by feeding the biographies through the ChatGPT generative AI tool to create new versions it posted on Passes’ website.
