Fairey ‘Hope’ Poster Suit Dismissed; Settlement With AP Announced

The copyright infringement lawsuit brought by the Associated Press against street artist Shepard Fairey—creator of the famed “Hope” poster featuring an iconic image of President Obama—was dismissed by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Jan. 11, as settlement of the case seemed likely (Fairey v. Associated Press).

A day later, in a Jan. 12 news release, AP and Fairey announced they have “agreed in principle to settle their pending copyright infringement lawsuit” over rights in the poster and related merchandise.
