Ericsson Owes $31.5 Million to KPN in Patent Dispute, Jury Finds

Ericsson Inc. infringes Dutch telecom company Koninklijke KPN‘s mobile network patents, a federal jury in Texas found Friday, awarding $31.5 million in damages to KPN.

The jury additionally found the infringement was willful.

KPN sued Ericsson last March, alleging infringement of five patents—including US Patent Nos. RE48,089, 8,881,235 and 9,253,637—all related to mobile network communication, according to case documents.

Ericsson agreed with KPN that the companies had signed a non-assertion agreement and other arrangements that covered Ericsson’s use of KPN technology through the end of 2017. KPN sent Ericsson a settlement offer in March 2020 that ...
