Eminem Publisher Advances Core Copyright Claims Against Meta

Meta Platforms Inc. failed to escape claims in federal district court that the tech giant directly infringed 243 songs owned by rapper Eminem’s publisher Eight Mile Style LCC.

Eight Mile Style’s assertion that Meta reproduced and stored copies of its songs in Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp music libraries without permission sufficed to survive a motion to dismiss, the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan said Tuesday.

But the music publisher failed to adequately plead required elements of its contributory and vicarious infringement claims, the court said.
