Embattled New York Copyright Lawyer Richard Liebowitz Disbarred

A New York state court disbarred prolific copyright attorney Richard Liebowitz, who faced multiple sanctions for misconduct and was chided by federal judges as a “copyright troll.”

The disbarment opinion pointed to 14 cases identified by the US District Court for the Southern District of New York where Liebowitz committed misconduct. The decision came about four years after the Southern District of New York suspended him from practice in 2020 and sanctioned him $100,000.
