The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office will temporarily allow plant patent applications and related documents to be filed electronically, accommodating innovators affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.
Such applications are typically required to be delivered by mail or by hand to the office’s customer service window. The office said it will continue to accept hand-delivered or mailed filings.
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act signed by President Trump March 27 empowered the office to temporarily modify deadlines.
