Ed Sheeran’s Second ‘Thinking Out Loud’ Copyright Suit Dismissed

Ed Sheeran fended off a second lawsuit claiming that his hit “Thinking Out Loud” copied from Marvin Gaye’s soul classic “Let’s Get It On,” weeks after a New York jury found him not liable for infringing the song.

US District Judge Louis Stanton, who oversaw the jury trial involving the estate of Gaye’s co-writer Ed Townsend, ruled that the second suit brought by an investment company that purchased royalty rights to “Let’s Get It On” must be dismissed “to prevent manifest injustice.”
