EBay Suing South African Property Listing Site Over Use of ‘Rentbay’ Trademark

A South African property listing site is vowing to fight legal action brought by eBay in which the online auction site alleges that the Johannesburg-based company’s use of the name “Rentbay” was likely to deceive the company’s customers.

Tenant Profile Network—operating under the Rentbay.co.za website—announced through its blog and local media in late October that it was prepared to hold its ground against efforts brought by eBay to shut down the website, with the San Jose-based company alleging that use of “Rentbay” amounted to taking unfair advantage of eBay’s trademarks.
