Dutch NXP Sued Over Wi-Fi Patents Central to Wireless Standards

NXP Semiconductors NV was sued for allegedly infringing a slew of patents by creating products that utilize Wi-Fi to comply with various wireless networking standards.

Texas-based Redwood Technologies LLC accused NXP, and its NXP BV and NXP USA Inc. units, of infringing its patents after multiple failed attempts to start licensing discussions, according to two similar complaints filed Friday in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas.

Redwood said its patents are essential for NXP’s microcontrollers, automotive chipsets, and other products to comply with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers 802 wireless networking standards.
