Pop singer Dua Lipa failed to escape a copyright suit saying her hit song “Levitating” ripped of a pair of disco songs, even as a New York federal court set a high bar for the plaintiffs.
Larball Publishing Co. Inc. and Sandy Linzer Productions Inc. failed to allege facts sufficient to establish Dua Lipa or her co-writer, co-performar, or publisher accessed the 1979 and 1980 songs at issue, the US District Court for the Southern District of New York said Aug. 8. But the plaintiffs did sufficiently allege that Dua Lipa’s song was “strikingly similar” enough to overcome that barrier. ...
