Dropbox Settles ‘SmartSync’ Suit With Military Software Company

Dropbox Inc. settled a military software maker’s trademark lawsuit alleging infringement of its “SmartSync” trademark, six months after the Ninth Circuit revived the suit.

The companies provided no details in their joint filing for dismissal with prejudice, meaning it can’t be refiled.

Ironhawk Technologies Inc. convinced the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in April that a jury could plausibly find reverse confusion, where consumers mistakenly believe the trademark owner was affiliated with the larger Dropbox. That sent the case back to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, where the parties settled the dispute. ...
