Disney Streaming Platforms Draw Suit Over Velos’ Video Patents

A patent owner sued The Walt Disney Co. and its affiliates after licensing discussions failed over its video coding technology for the media giant’s streaming platforms, including Hulu and ESPN+.

Velos Media LLC said Disney didn’t take “meaningful steps” to negotiate after talks broke down in 2025, according to a complaint filed March 20 in the US District Court for the Central District of California.

Velos said Disney_+ and the company’s other streaming platforms infringe several of its patents related to the video coding technology: US Patent Nos. 11,627,338, 9,008,184, 12,186,395, 8,964,849, 12,088,843 and 12,341,962. ...
