Walt Disney Pictures settled allegations revived by the Ninth Circuit that the original “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie infringed a screenplay Disney rejected.
Disney initially escaped the lawsuit in 2019 after a lower court found most of the similarities were common pirate tropes. But the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit said that was premature based on the number of alleged similarities and undeveloped record.
