Dish Triumphs in Copyright Dispute With TV Set-Top Box Maker

South Asian set-top box maker Jadoo TV Inc. infringed Dish Network LLC’s copyrights by allowing users to access and watch content Jadoo hadn’t licensed, a federal judge said.

The US District Court for the Northern District of California granted summary judgment to Dish on all of its claims on Tuesday. The court also said Jadoo’s CEO, Sajid Sohail, was liable for the infringement.

Jadoo violated Dish’s copyright by “enhancing users’ access to the infringing content” and “uploading and instigating distribution of the content,” Judge Charles R. Breyer wrote. Jadoo’s set-top boxes came preloaded with content, preconfigured to install infringing content, ...
