DigiMedia Streaming Patent Partly Cut at Administrative Tribunal

United Patents LLC persuaded an administrative tribunal to cancel one part of a DigiMedia Tech LLC streaming patent asserted in lawsuits against companies including ViacomCBS Inc., Lenovo US Inc., and Panasonic Corp.

One claim of DigiMedia’s US Patent No. 6,473,532 is obvious due to two previously issued patents, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board said in a decision issued Jan. 12. The tribunal didn’t rule on the validity of another claim Unified challenged, saying the link between it and the canceled claim is “too attenuated” to resolve its ambiguity.
