Dell Nixes Cloud Computing Patent Involved in Texas Lawsuit

Dell Technologies Inc., VMware Inc., and EMC Corp. convinced an administrative patent tribunal to toss a cloud computing patent they were accused of infringing.

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board found all claims of WSOU Investments LLC’s US Patent No. 9,164,800 to be unpatentable as obvious, canceling the entire patent. WSOU conducts business as Brazos Licensing and Development.

Brazos had sued the companies in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas in June 2020, accusing them of infringing the patent with their sale of cloud-related solutions products like VMware’s VeloCloud solutions and Dell’s PowerEdge servers. ...
