Dating App Patents Are Abstract, Federal Cir. Says in Kippo Win

A federal district court correctly invalidated two patents asserted against the maker of mobile gaming and dating app Kippo, the Federal Circuit ruled, agreeing that the patents covered abstract subject matter that’s ineligible for protection.

Trinity Info Media LLC’s US Patent Nos. 9,087,321 and 10,936,685 cover online polling technology that matches a user with other users. It accused app developer Covalent Inc. of infringing those patents in a Central District of California lawsuit, which was dismissed because the claimed inventions covered abstract processes.
