Data scraping firm SerpApi LLC sued a former contractor in federal court, accusing him of pillaging its source code and founding a copycat company.
Zilvinas Kucinskas accessed SerpApi’s servers 29 times after his departure from the firm, including after he founded SearchApi LLC, according to a complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas.
Kucinskas used SerpApi’s source code to make an “overwhelmingly similar website and overwhelmingly similar products and tools,” the complaint said. Both companies offer technology that crawls websites over the internet.
