Court Block Reversed on Florida Property Ban on Chinese Citizens

A federal appeals court removed an order enjoining the state of Florida from enforcing a law to prevent property purchases by two Chinese national who challenged the restrictions.

A divided three-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit found that the plaintiffs didn’t have standing to challenge SB 264, which bans noncitizens “domiciled” in China from purchasing homes or other property in the state, with limited exceptions.

The law also includes less restrictive prohibitions on immigrants from Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and Russia. The judges heard oral arguments in April 2024.
