David Gooder, the former director of the International Trademark Association, has been appointed as the nation’s top trademark official, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office announced.
Gooder was chief trademark counsel at Brown-Forman Corp., a distilled spirits and wine seller that owns brands including Jack Daniels, the agency said. The new commissioner for trademarks “has worked for more than 25 years on intellectual property (IP) and brand protection challenges facing iconic global brands,” the office said in its statement.
