Copyright Office Seeks Comments on Music Rights Revenues (3)

The US Copyright Office is looking into the growing number of organizations managing musical performance rights and the distribution of licensing revenue at the request of several members of Congress.

The office is soliciting comments on factors contributing to the growth of performance rights organizations—who license the right to use a song in public—according to a notice set to be published Feb. 10 in the Federal Register. The office is also asking for comments on whether there have been “increased financial and administrative costs” imposed on licensees associated with paying royalties to additional PROs,” among other topics.
