Continental Mostly Beats Nokia Bids to Nip Patent-Licensing Suit

Nokia Oyj failed to win the dismissal of Continental Automotive Systems Inc.’s claims it breached commitments made to standard-setting organizations that it would license patents deemed essential to cellular industry standards on “fair” terms, but a judge limited the relief Continental can seek.

The Continental AG subsidiary sued Nokia in January 2021 seeking the court’s determination of a fair payment for the use of Nokia’s patented technology, escalating a global battle over royalties on telecommunications technology in vehicles.
