Iowa-based Drake University sued a community college in the state, saying its rebranded logo infringed the university’s trademarks and caused confusion between the two schools.
Des Moines Area Community College revamped its logo and color schemes in November 2023, adopting a “vintage style ‘D’” similar to Drake University’s “block style” “D"-bearing logo it has used since 1902, according to the complaint filed Monday in the US District Court for the Southern District of Iowa. After the community college moved from a stylized “DMACC” logo to the new logo, Drake said, Facebook users voiced confusion about the change.
