Comcast Owes Promptu $240 Million in Voice-Tech Patent Case (1)

Comcast Corp. was hit with a $240 million verdict after a federal jury in Pennsylvania found its voice‑enabled television products infringed long-disputed patents for Promptu Systems Corp.'s voice-recognition technology.

Jurors returned the verdict in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on Jan. 23, though a public version isn’t yet available on the docket.

Promptu’s counsel at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner LLP issued a news release Tuesday highlighting the infringement findings and damages award. A Comcast spokesperson confirmed those details but said jurors also invalidated one of the patents.
