Comcast Defeats Another TiVo Patent in Agency Challenges

A patent for an interactive television program guide system owned by TiVo’s Rovi is invalid, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board said in opinions posted on its electronic docket.

A three-judge panel found that the patent for the system to tune into TV programs based on schedule information was not that different from earlier patents.

Patent No. 8,713,595 is one of many Rovi has claimed Comcast Corp. infringes as the companies fight over licensing fees. Claims involving the patent were stayed pending the Patent and Trademark Office review.
