Comcast Can’t Stop Xfinity Streaming Platform Patent Suit (1)

Comcast Cable Communications LLC can’t avoid a patent infringement case concerning its Xfinity X1 streaming technology, the Middle District of Florida ruled Feb. 20.

Streaming video company WhereverTV Inc. provided sufficient evidence to put Comcast on notice of the claims against it, the court ruled.

WhereverTV Inc. owns U.S. Patent No. 8,656,431, related to a “global interactive program guide and device.” The company uses geotargeting and customer subscriptions to stream video to “cord-cutters” over multiple devices.

Comcast created the Xfinity X1 platform, a “multiscreen, cloud-based entertainment platform” that delivers content over the internet, mobile phones, television, and set top boxes. ...
