Columbia Settles Ten-Year Reflective Clothes Design-Patent Fight

Columbia Sportswear settled a decade-long dispute in which it alleged a winter-glove company infringed its design patent.

Details weren’t immediately available on the deal between Columbia Sportswear North America Inc. and Seirus Innovative Access Inc., who filed a joint stipulation Dec. 5 to dismiss the case in the US District Court for the Southern District of California. Last year Seirus revived its challenge to the validity of Columbia’s design patent as obvious after an appeals court nullified a nearly 30-year-old test that made it difficult to attack design patents.
