Coachella Music Festival LLC, the company behind the popular California music event, filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against the creator of “Moechella,” a Washington, D.C., festival and movement based around Go-Go music.
The complaint filed in D.C. federal court on Wednesday alleged that Justin Johnson has sold merchandise and hosted music events under the Moechella name, which “intentionally” trades off the goodwill of the Coachella brand and is likely to confuse consumers into believing that the two festivals are related.
