Clorox Moves to Pull ZeroWater’s Owner Into Water-Filter Fight

Clorox Co. and its Brita unit asked a federal judge to add ZeroWater’s parent company, Culligan International Co., to an ongoing antitrust lawsuit, arguing Culligan’s tight control over ZeroWater makes it a necessary party.

Rosemont, Ill.-based Culligan played a key role in setting certification standards for high-performance gravity-fed water filters, according to a motion Clorox filed May 30 in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Zero Technologies LLC accuses Clorox and Brita of manipulating that process to block competition.
