The US Patent and Trademark Office is launching a program to accelerate the examination of patent applications involving innovations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
“The program is intended to encourage research, development and innovation in the climate space and provide ready and equitable intellectual property protection to incentivize investment and bring those solutions to the country and world,” according to a Federal Register notice on Thursday.
The “Climate Change Mitigation Pilot Program” will begin accepting applications on June 3, and continue either until June 3, 2023, or the date that the USPTO accepts a total of 1,000 grantable petitions.
