Cisco Gets Email Security Patent Tossed Amid Infringement Suit

Cisco Systems Inc. succeeded Friday in getting most of a competitor’s patent for email security systems thrown out at an administrative tribunal, invalidating one of two patents asserted against it in a federal district court infringement case.

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board found that all challenged claims in US Patent No. 8,965,892, which covers network content filtering, are obvious in light of previous inventions.
