Cisco Beats Egenera’s Appeal in Server-Management Patent Case

Cisco Systems Inc. fended off Egenera Inc.'s bid to revive a $371 million suit alleging infringement of a server-management patent, as a federal appeals court upheld a jury verdict and pretrial rulings in Cisco’s favor.

Circuit Judge Sharon Prost, in a precedential opinion issued Monday for a three-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, affirmed the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts’ 2022 summary judgment and jury verdict rejecting Egenera’s allegations that Cisco’s Unified Computing System infringed US Patent No. 7,231,430. The patent expired in May 2024, Bloomberg Law estimates.
