Cirrus Logic Knocks Out Patents Aimed at Semiconductor Companies

Texas chip designer Cirrus Logic Inc. convinced a tribunal to ax parts of six patents belonging to Greenthread LLC that have been asserted over the past decade against major technology companies including Intel Corp., Texas Instruments Inc., and Samsung Electronics Co.

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board between October 29 and November 7 issued seven rulings invalidating claims from the patents, according to a joint status report Cirrus and Greenthread filed Nov. 14 in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas.
