Chinese Official Is Convicted by U.S. Jury in Trade-Secret Case

A Chinese official was convicted Friday in Cincinnati of economic espionage and trying to steal trade secrets from U.S. aviation companies, Acting U.S. Attorney Vipal J. Patel said in a statement.

  • Yanjun Xu, a deputy division director at the Chinese Ministry of State Security, was arrested in Belgium in 2018 when he arrived to meet a GE Aviation official, according to the statement
  • Xu was attempting to steal technology related to GE Aviation’s exclusive composite aircraft engine fan, something no other company in the world has been able to duplicate, prosecutors said
