China’s Tech Overseer to Unveil AI Guardrails as Soon as April

China’s technology ministry plans to publish a set of draft guidelines on the ethical use of AI as soon as next month, in Beijing’s latest effort to regulate an industry undergoing explosive growth.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will publish a set of draft guidelines seeking public feedback soon, said a Chinese Academy of Sciences professor who helped draft the rules. Among other things, the envisioned regulations will mandate the creation of AI-use review committees at the ministry as well as local government levels, Zeng Yi told reporters on the sidelines of the Boao forum.
