China’s OnePlus Owes Rival $10 Million After Patent Verdict

A BBK Electronics unit owes Pantech Corp. $10.3 million for creating and selling smartphones that infringe patents for multiple generations of wireless technology, a Texas federal jury determined.

Chinese moble phone maker OnePlus Technology Co. willfully infringed Pantech’s five patents, the jury for the US District Court of the Eastern District of Texas determined Friday evening. The company’s counsel immediately raised concerns with the damages award.

Pantech and its unit Pantech Wireless LLC sued OnePlus in June 2022 alleging its smartphones infringed its protected technology, including its OnePlus Nord line of mobile phones. The company alleged OnePlus infringed five patents: ...
