Actor and comedian Richard “Cheech” Marin has settled his trademark infringement claims against the maker of “Cheech’s Own” coffee, according to a Los Angeles federal court filing.
Marin sued the New Jersey coffee company in September, alleging its use of “Cheech” was likely to confuse customers into thinking he was affiliated with the brand and dilute his own “Cheech” trademark.
Cheech’s Own founder Steven Chiocchi told Bloomberg Law in September the brand’s name was based on his childhood nickname, and wasn’t intended to invoke Marin or his acting career.
Details of the settlement weren’t immediately available.
