Cerence Faces Patent Suit Over AI Audio Tool for Vehicles

A patent owner brought infringement claims against Cerence Inc. over the use of artificial intelligence-powered audio systems that provide speech enhancement and emergency vehicle detection services.

Cerence’s Audio AI systems infringe US Patent No. 8,594,341, which protects a method for selectively switching between audio channels, according to Ad Innovations LLC’s complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Ad Innovations said Cerence knew of the infringement concerns through the patent owner’s lawsuits against BMW of North America LLC and Mercedes-Benz USA LLC.
